(another) Social Media Event Delivers

I attended one of many seminars/rountables/panels/(insert gathering here) on social media today in Washington, DC. This particular one was sponsored by Kickapps (www.kickapps.com) and Clickability (www.clickability.com). Like many of these events, it had to start with the basics, which is tough to take. But also like many of these events, it showed just how damn interesting life is right now relative to web 2.0. The speakers, panel and audience represented federal, major media, fortune 50, developers and cool startups. The room buzzed at times with great ideas and I felt it important to share one in particular.

A woman who claimed openly to be barely web 1.0 literate asked the panel if her non-profit is even a candidate for web 2.0. Her goal is to get professionals from the science community into the classrooms of disadvantaged children. The room immediately began buzzing with ideas, not just about the use of social media, but actual ideas for achieving the goal. For maybe only 30 seconds, the room became a social network of people who didn’t even know eachother solving a complex challenge.

She got it. And thanks to her, so did everyone in the room.
