Web2.0 NYC – Some Get It
I enjoyed the show. It gave me a chance to kick the offline tires of the online community providers. I went with no expectations but a good idea of what I was looking for. Actually, I knew more what I wasn’t looking for. I wasn’t looking for anything that reminded me of the dotcom days. These include the following:
– Expensive booth with lots of toy giveaways
– Everyone dressed in black
– Failure to ask any questions about my goals
But what I found was refreshing. There are many companies that understand the importance of enterprise resource planning and analytics. They get that social media is actually the merger of sales, marketing, pr and customer relations management. The maturity of these companies was not a result of how long they’ve been in business as much as it was in their well thought out approach. They were less about technology, more about people. Less about cause and more about effect.
This clear separation between the 20% doers and the 80% showers wasn’t necessarily visible while walking the aisles, but within a 30 second conversation it was clear.
More later.
