ASSESSING THE VALUE OF COMMUNITY

There are many evolving business models around community. This is great because revenue will continue to drive investment which will continue to drive innovation and more communities. But I think monetization loses some of the most important value in community building. Better medicine, schools, relationships, debate and public safety are just a few of the intrinsic benefits created through online community building. These can’t be measured in terms of dollars and cents but they have tremendous value to everyone involved. And I would argue that these benefits ultimately lead to a stronger economy.
