Don’t be confused by the title, Google is a juggernaut. But I’ve seen them repeatedly try to enter the applications market without much success yet. The announcement of their Chrome browser is the latest.
Just when most non-technical types are getting used to Firefox as a default alternative to IE I doubt they’ll be looking to switch again. I see this move as good for industry because it will drive innovation in the browser space and if Mozilla plays it right, it will be able to leverage Googles R&D investments to their advantage. Of course, I will check it out thoroughly. The one thing Google does have is plenty of time to wait out the market, a nice luxury to have. As we’ve seen in the past, a lot can change in a hurry if new applications written for Chrome become the next best thing since Google search.
